Walter L. Davis
Walter L. Davis is the Co-Chief Executive Officer and a founding member of CertusBank, N.A. In his role, he provides strategic direction to grow the $1.9 billion organization organically and through acquisition.
A full-service, nationally-chartered financial institution, CertusBank employs over 700 teammates in eleven states and operates 35 branches across the Carolinas, Florida and Georgia. A regional leader in business banking, CertusBank is a national leader in SBA lending and the largest based in South Carolina.
Included in his collective years of experience, Mr. Davis served as the Executive Vice President of Retail Credit and Direct Lending for Wachovia Corporation. During his tenure, he was responsible for the bank’s $70 billion Retail Credit and Small Business portfolio. Under his leadership, Wachovia Retail Credit received the J.D. Power #1 customer satisfaction award in 2006 and 2007 for home originations and #1 in servicing in 2008. Previously, he was a Principal in the Real Estate Syndicated Capital Markets Group at Bank of America.
Mr. Davis is a member of the Board of Directors of CertusBank, N.A. and its parent, CertusHoldings, Inc. He also serves as a Board member for the University of South Carolina - School of Business Partnership Foundation, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Bankers Association, and The Peace Center. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Providence Day School.
Active in community development and serving as a key strategic partner for many upstate South Carolina businesses, Mr. Davis was named one of the “50 Most Influential People” for 2011 and 2012 by the Greenville Business Magazine. He is also featured throughout the book “Banktown” which is based on the rise and fall of Charlotte, North Carolina’s two largest banks.
Mr. Davis is an alumnus of the University of South Carolina.
